Mostly during summers, one may find cockroaches or some other pests slithering in some nook and corner or hidden in cylinder, sink, cracks, crevices or places which cannot be seen by the naked eye. They carry germs and bacteria, come behind the back, crawl on food and utensils, contaminate food and spread Food Poisoning Food poisoning is one of the biggest concerns and this always keeps running at the back of your mind is my Food safe. India Runway Week- 2017

Weavers at Centre stage of current season of India Runway Week

It would seem that no matter how big the India Runway Week gets, there you will always find fresh new names. Of course, the old designers continue every season. This is the 8th season of India Runway Week which is starting from 28th of April.

The weavers of India are its biggest assets. Indian hand woven fabrics have been known since time immemorial. India was famous even in ancient times as an exporter of textiles to most parts of the civilized world but throughout history and currently too there are evidences that show that weavers have always been a victim of a staunch hierarchical system. Being at the bottom of the system they fall prey to the extreme forms of exploitation.

There are organizations that are identified as a promising means of raising voice for them and generating livelihood for hundreds of rural artisans. They have made a significant contribution to the lives of the women artisans working with it, which has helped improve their economic as well as social status.

They strive to bring the traditions of India to customers all around the world with its unique creations and products. It not only helps its artisans become wage earners, but also spreads awareness about the traditional crafts of the region, thus helping preserve a rich part of India’s national cultural heritage. Indian Federation for fashion Development have joined hand with four of these organizations i.e Rangsutra, SoCHE, Banka Silk and Gestures by Kriti who will present the work of artisans at current season of India Runway Week Summer 2017 ramp which is starting from 28th of April to 30th of April 2017

“The purpose of this show is to raise the current conditions of the weavers and to propose the importance of such organizations and social security to the custodians of this ageless art.” Said by Fashion director, Kiran Kheva, India Runway Week

Rangsutra is a craft company of thousand artisans from remote regions of India – the desert regions of Rajasthan and plains of Eastern Uttar Pradesh whereas SoCHE is reviving this languishing and less popular hand embroidery practiced by women around the border areas of Barmer. Banka Silk on other hand is imparting the required skills to the weaver’s community of Banka, connecting them with the markets and helps create an Eco-system wherein the weaver’s community can become self-sustainable. And lastly Gestures by Kriti is a livelihood support and outreach initiative that began in 1999, to promote ethical, sustainable and socially conscious thinking & buying of 'community made' products.

Holla people!
Grooming is very important these days to enhance your personality. It helps you look good and feel good. There are so many facilities available these days to pamper ourself. Beauty gives you peace and also help you to look good. There are so many beauty parlors nearby and also high end salons. There are so many options from which we can choose.
Due to my hectic schedule, I hardly get time these days to go to salons and pamper myself. Weekends are like cleaning clothes and doing some other errands and spending some quality time with my family. So I thought of searching a salon which gives services at home and then I found about the Vanity CubeThey provide professional beauty service at the doorstep. Getting pampered in your comfort zone feels great. You don’t have to go out in this scorching heat and then wait there at the salon for your turn. You are safe from the pollution too!
I booked an appointment with the Vanity Cube according to my own time schedule. You can visit their site http://www.vanitycube.in/ and book same day beauty and make-up services at home.

The therapist reached on time with a big bag which had all the required equipments. She was very professional. I booked a package of HairSpa, Pedicure and full hand-full leg-underarms waxing. The service cost was of INR 2000. She did her little set-up and also placed a disposable sheet on the bed to keep it neat and clean. Hygiene is very important and it was good to see her taking care of this important factor.

We started with waxing and then she took out the electric hot water tub for the pedicure. The pedicure session was for 30 mints and it was very relaxing. Then I had the hair spa session in which she gave a really nice massage and as my hair is little long it took around 45 minutes. The entire service lasted for around 2 hours.

She even gave me hair care tips to avoid the dryness in this polluted environment. She even cleared the area after the service!
Getting pampered at home and not going out after the session felt so good and relaxing.
My overall experience was very good and I really loved my afternoon pampering session. I am looking forward to book an appointment with them again next month.

Fresh milk can help eliminate your break-up blues

To find something that lasts forever, if not impossible, has certainly become quite difficult in today's fast changing world. Everything gets replaced in just a few years and most things come with an expiry date. Relationships have acquired similar characteristics, which in turn has made break-ups quite commonplace. The resulting hurt is something we are all familiar with and it’s not a good state to be in. Since the winds of change cannot be stopped, it would be prudent to deal with the problem and move on. If the problem is break-up and the associated hurt, one way you can deal with it is by taking dairy products such as fresh full cream organic milk, organic curd, cow milk products (by niryas.com) etc.
Dairy products such as fresh milk, organic curd and cow milk products contain copious amounts of B vitamins such as Vitamin B12, B6 and folate. Scientific studies conducted by researchers have shown evidence that these vitamins can be helpful in the treatment of depression. These are also useful in fighting mood swings and can be quite effective in eliminating break-up blues. If you are a vegetarian, then you should definitely include milk and milk products in your diet because it is the only vegetarian source of Vitamin B12. Apart from its mood elevating properties, Vitamin B12 also plays several other important functions, which is why milk and milk products is an absolute must for vegetarians.
The good fats and protein found in dairy products also work to enhance your mood. The brain is almost 60% fat, so it’s easy to see why fat is important for elevating your mood. This observation has also been supported by several research studies. When you are in good mood, you are likely to engage in new activities, which will help you gradually forget your past. The memory part of our brain works like a computer’s hard disc, where if you input new things, the old stuff will be automatically overwritten with the new things that you do and experience.

Remember, milk can only help you; it’s not a cure. To move on after a break-up, you need to realize that life is more important than anything else. It may take some time, and often things of the past may overwhelm you, but you need to be conscious of these things and keep trying to focus on the present. Talk to people, go on a holiday, make new goals and work on them, find a new hobby, buy something that you always wanted, and things like that. Soon, you will realize that you have left your past far behind and are starting a new journey that’s full of exciting possibilities.

1857 DUST OF AGES VOL 1: A FORGOTTEN TALE by Vandana Shanker

1857 DUST OF AGES VOL 1:
A FORGOTTEN TALE
by
Vandana Shanker

Blurb

1857. The rebellion erupts in India. Despite its attempts to stay aloof, NAVGARH, a small town near Delhi, is drawn into the conflagration. And at its heart are Princess Meera and Captain Richard Smith, with their strange alliance made for the throne of Navgarh.

2016, Shiv Sahai, a young Indian art historian and Ruth Aiken, a British scholar discover an excerpt from the journal of an anonymous British soldier, searching for his wife in the chaos of 1857 Delhi. As they begin investigating the scandal, they become aware of the vague rumours that are told in the bylanes of Navgarh – about a princess who married a British soldier to save her kingdom.

Read an excerpt from the book...

Prologue
Camp, Delhi Cantonment, 16 August, 1857.
Things have changed forever. A day spent in the company of my old friend Knox made it clear. These distances can never be bridged.
The pole of his tent snapped in the storm yesterday; and for the sake of old friendship, I offered Knox my humble abode. But his rancour was jarring. His determination to teach the enemy a lesson, the unshaken belief in the rightness of our mission– such bitterness asks too much of friendship and duty.
Earlier we went over the battlefield. One of our regiments was destroying the village near the bridge to prevent the enemy from getting cover in it. Elephants were pulling down the walls. The villagers stood by as their houses turned into mud while the monsoon clouds gathered on the horizon. Unfortunately, they were the Jats, who, for the most part, are our friends. We decided that the destruction of their homes and fields was necessary. Twenty-three men – their countrymen – were lying together in the ditch at the back of the village; we weren’t sure if they were the rebels. A party of Rifles killed then en masse, just to be sure.
We left the village with our bags swollen like raisins in water. And who can blame our light-fingered gentry? Armies are said to travel on their stomach.
At some distance from our camp, I can see the sun setting over the fort of Delhi. It isn’t much different from the first sunset I witnessed here years ago. How things have changed! We came with a mission – to know this exotic land, to bring the light of knowledge and civilization to its darkness. Now the memory leaves me embarrassed. These massive red walls made me uneasy even then. Today they mock our camp again. Whatever be the outcome of this devil’s wind, it has revealed the banality of our mission.
Knox’s bitterness is an expression of the anger in the camp. When the cannons are quiet, the silence resounds with confusion, with terror, with rage, but most of all with the question ‘Why?’ As we sit around a small fire every night, the question rages in every mind. ‘Why the mutiny? Haven’t we brought the glory of civilization to this land of superstition?’ These thoughts simmer as we deal with hunger, heat and rain.
But soon these questions will be forgotten. The winners will annihilate the other side. Already I see the madness in the eyes as rumours reach us from other places – Cawnpur, Jhansi, Lucknow. Madness will soon be let loose.
I often feel that the answers that elude me today were within my grasp a short while ago. They are somewhere near, yet unreachable, like the time gone by.
I promise to look for them once I have found her again. For she, I feel, holds a part of it.
So every evening, I try to escape this madness by thinking about her, Princess Meera of Navgarh, a rebel soldier and my wife. It is the third year of our marriage. Three years of tenuous links and fragile understanding. It was only a matter of time before an explosion happened. And it happened that eventful week when Navgarh too burnt in the fire raging all across India. The news that the sepoys in Meerut had rebelled spurred both of us. Did I expect Meera to be a dutiful wife when all her beliefs, her convictions pulled her in the opposite direction? Was I surprised on knowing that she was in Delhi, amongst the rebels? Would she be surprised on knowing that I have followed her as an enemy… a British officer? And as I follow her, I stand here once again, after five years, outside the walls of the Red Fort in Delhi.
